Hydroxyapatite is a kind of bioactive bioceramic material. Its composition is very similar to the inorganic components of human teeth. It has good affinity with teeth. Therefore, in the process of brushing teeth, hydroxyapatite is easy to adsorb on the surface of teeth defects, and closely combined with teeth to achieve the role of repairing and strengthening teeth. Dental caries is the main form of tooth damage, Dextran is a polysaccharide polymer produced by Streptococcus mutans metabolizing glucose. It can be used by bacteria to produce acid, which can demineralize enamel and cause dental caries. Hydroxyapatite can adsorb Streptococcus mutans, It can prevent dental caries. Acicular hydroxyapatite below 50 nm has better remineralization hardness, demineralization coverage rate and adsorption capacity (adsorption capacity of Streptococcus mutans) for demineralized teeth. Therefore, the addition of acicular hydroxyapatite below 50 nm in toothpaste will have better effect of repairing teeth and preventing caries
The antibacterial effect and remineralization effect on artificial caries were studied by antibacterial test and remineralization test respectively. The results showed that nano hydroxyapatite (nano HAP) had a very significant inhibitory effect on the growth of Streptococcus mutans (P < 0.01). After 10 days of remineralization of artificial caries by toothpaste containing 5% nano hap, The results showed that the microhardness of enamel was significantly improved (P < 0.01). The toothpaste containing 5% nano hydroxyapatite (nano HAP) had caries prevention effect

Hydroxyapatite, also known as hydroxyapatite, basic calcium phosphate, is the natural mineralization of calcium apatite (Ca5 (PO4) 3 (OH)). But it is often written in the form of (CA10 (PO4) 6 (OH) 2) to highlight that it is composed of two parts: hydroxy and apatite. OH group can be replaced by fluoride, chloride and carbonate ion to form fluoroapatite or chloroapatite. Calcium ion can be replaced by various metal ions through ion exchange reaction to form corresponding metal ion m apatite (M represents gold ion replacing calcium ion). Hydroxyapatite (HAP) is the main inorganic component of vertebrate bones and teeth. The content of HAP in human enamel is about 96 wt.% (92 vol.%), and that in bone is about 69 wt.%. Hydroxyapatite has excellent biocompatibility and bioactivity, and can be used as a bone or tooth inducer, which has good remineralization, desensitization and whitening effect on teeth in the field of oral health care. The results show that HAP particles have good biocompatibility and high affinity with enamel. The mineralized solution can effectively form remineralization deposit, prevent calcium ion loss, solve enamel demineralization problem and fundamentally prevent dental caries. The toothpaste containing HAP material has strong adsorption effect on salivary protein and dextran, can reduce dental plaque of patients, promote gingivitis healing, and have good prevention and treatment effect on caries and periodontal disease.
